FRANKLIN, TN – After a gutting overtime loss in Week 1, Centennial High School’s football team got redemption with an emphatic statement on Friday night, storming to a 42-7 victory over Summit in a thrilling all-Williamson County matchup.

The Cougars absolutely dominated the first half, outscoring the Spartans by 5 touchdowns and taking a 35-0 lead into the locker room. They won on all 3 sides of the ball, grabbing points by way of a kickoff return, fumble return, rushing and 3 passing touchdowns by senior quarterback Riley Turner. 

Centennial’s offense came alive, led by quarterback Riley Turner, who completed 9 of 15 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. 

Their defense, led by standout brothers Kani Johnson and Gavin Johnson and linebacker Aidan Wright- held Summit to just 44 rushing yards on the night.

Second year Head Coach Jamal Stewart had to channel the frustration of his squad after their narrow 22-21 defeat to Franklin on a broken play in Overtime.

The Cougars wasted no time, with Turner connecting on two deep strikes—a 40-yarder to Taylen Vaughn and a 46-yarder to Gavin Johnson—giving Centennial a commanding 21-0 lead before the first quarter ended. The offense was firing on all cylinders, and the defense wasn’t far behind.

Just 11 seconds into the second quarter, Isaac Bonds capitalized on a Summit fumble, returning it 30 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 28-0. By halftime, the Cougars were up 35-0, thanks to Turner’s third touchdown pass, a 14-yarder to Ethan Cleary.

Centennial’s ground game was anchored by Carlos Vigil, who rushed for 61 yards on 15 carries, including an early touchdown that set the tone. Vigil’s 21-yard burst on fourth down was a key moment, highlighting the Cougars’ aggressive and determined approach.

Summit, coming off a solid win over Spring Hill, managed to break the shutout early in the fourth quarter with a nine-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Mason McElhaney. However, 

Centennial sealed the deal when Bonds returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, capping off an incredible night for the Cougars.
